Marquette Gold Cheers

Milwaukee's Marquette University recently decided to change its nickname to the Gold, a decision met with a storm of criticism. A Penny For complains the change has "made Marquette University the butt of a joke and I am embarrassed to be an alumni of the University." Heraldblog chimes in with suggestions for four cheers.

I think Marquette University should call its sports teams "The Fighting Saviors". The mascot could be a dude dressed up like Jesus, only wearing a track suit and high top Nikes. He slam dunks basketballs off a trampoline, and throws loaves of bread to the fans. At half time, he drags a giant cross to the middle of the court, and then nails an effigy of the opposing team's mascot to it. His disciples are 12 hot college girls in short skirts. They form a human mound from which "Fighting Savior" delivers his sermon of victory.

I think this idea has a couple things going for it. First of all, Marquette is a Jesuit University, which already uses Jesus for inspiration. Second, anybody who says the new mascot is culturally insensitive is obviously being politically correct, and thus easy to ignore.
